Festival Information

Gallery North is pleased to announce the Wet Paint Festival, a two-day plein air painting event hosted every June. With over 40 participating artists, visitors can observe plein air painters working at their easels in the beautiful outdoor setting of Setauket’s historic Main Street. The Wet Paint Festival will take place from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, June 1st and Sunday, June 2nd on the grounds of the Tyler Homestead, located at 97 Main Street in Setauket. The event will be free and open to the public.

For its 20th year, the Wet Paint Festival’s featured location will be the Tyler Homestead. The home dates back to the mid- 1700’s and was built with trees hewed from the surrounding area. The Tyler House is widely recognized as one of the finest examples of a historic American farmhouse. Today, this home is owned by the Three Village Community Trust, a local not-for-profit dedicated to “Protecting the Places You Love.” As the center of this year’s Wet Paint Festival, the Tyler Homestead will serve as a hub for artists as they explore and paint nearby landmarks – Frank Melville Memorial Park, Patriot’s Rock, the Caroline Church, the Setauket Green, Emma Clark Public Library, and the three Immigrant Factory Worker Houses. These important sites will provide an ideal setting for our community to watch plein air painters at work.

Through a partnership with the Three Village Community Trust, there will also be tours of Patriot’s Rock and opportunities to learn about the special role that Setauket played during the American Revolution. Local naturalists will provide lectures on the wildlife and plant life of the surrounding area, and regional artists Doug Reina and Christine D’Addario will lead guided tours on plein air painting. Gallery North will also team up with WUSB 90.1 fm/107.3 fm Stony Brook, NY to present live musical performances each day. And, to enrich the festival experience, visitors will also
be able to purchase food from LevelUp Kitchen and enjoy a delicious picnic in an idyllic setting. Gallery North is thrilled to present this special experience. Our hope is that this cultural event will teach the public about plein air painting and inspire a new generation of artists.

After the Festival, all participating artists will be featured in an exhibition at the Reboli Center for Art and History in Stony Brook Village from June 25 to July 7. The exhibition will be free and open to the public. Gallery North is delighted to collaborate with the Reboli Center, the Three Village Community Trust, WUSB 90.1 fm/107.3 fm, and LevelUp Kitchen. The Wet Paint Festival is generously sponsored by the Village Art Collective and Suffolk County’s Department of Economic Development and Planning.
