 Gallery North's Community Art Center offers classes for students between the ages of 2 and 12 years. They are designed to give children an enriching and exciting studio experience. Our many talented art educators expose students to new mediums and techniques through a variety of unique workshops. Classes are differentiated based on skill level and one-to-one mentoring guides students of all abilities to achieve success.

Makers Week

Winter Break
Half-Day Workshop

February 19-23

Ages 6-11 years

Don't spend winter break out in the cold! Join us for our first winter session of ArtVentures! If your child has enjoyed our summer session they will have a wonderful time creating and discovering with us during Makers Week!

Calling All Makers!!!

Explore fine art through building, exploring and collaboration. During this week long, half-day workshop, students will work with some of Long Island's best artists and educators. Build with cardboard, create prototypes for potential inventions, and develop out-of-the-box ideas. All materials and supplies provided. Snack to be served to fuel creative minds. 

Tentitive schedual includes making sketchbooks, S.T.E.A.M building challenges, exploring the connections between music and art through creating instraments, art contraptions inventions and city building/designing!

Experiment, Imagine, Create

Classes for Adult and child

Saturdays: Pop-ins Welcome!!

10am-11am

Ages 2-6 years old

Cost: $25 per adult & child pair up to 2 children $10 for every additional child.  Please contact the gallery if more then two children will be attending. All materials included.

Each week will be inspired by a theme deriving from the Elements of Art.

The class will begin  with circle time where we will read a book, sing a song or view a video/app that pertains to the creative lesson to come. Each lesson is a sensory experience helping our young artists to develop their dexterity and fine motor coordination. Adults are encouraged to create along side their toddler and will be given tips on how to foster the create experience at home.  

Projects will include a variety of mediums including paint, clay and collage, with fun filled activities that teach the fundamentals of color, shape, line, form and composition.

March10: Drawing with scissors! Explore the art of Henri Matisse.

March 17: Primary Colors! Create a work of art inspired by Mondrian.

March 24: Still Life! Create a mixed media still life inspired by Van Gogh's sunflowers.

Make Art, Make Friends & Make Creative Memories!!

Join us for this session of ArtVentures where artist & illustrator Peter Grass will explore cartooning with the students. Learn the ins and outs of animation, character development through sketching & story telling through art. Students will create an animation cell & develop their own cartoon characters in this exciting class! This is a three week class meeting on Saturdays in March. All materials included. Snack to be served to fuel creative minds.

Art Ventures: Earth Day Art

Join artist Andrea Baatz in exploring the elements of art and nature for this two week session of ArtVentures celebrating Earth Day. Learn about Long Island’s native habitats and the importance of pollinators and water conservation in preserving the local ecosystem. Students will sculpt solutions to environmental concerns using natural and recycled materials to create rainwater catchment systems and bee houses. The class meets on Saturday, April 21st and 28th. All materials included but feel free to bring your own collections. Snack to be served to fuel creative minds.

During this week long, full day, program students will explore the creatures of Earth through artistic creation. Each class begins with some time to get to know the teachers and students followed by an introduction of that days project(s). Through hands on demonstrations students gain an understanding of the medium and feel confident in creating work themselves. They will make sculptures, drawings, prints and more all inspired by creatures! Each lesson is carefully designed by our spectacular team of educators to inspire the young artists that attend this one of a kind program. 

Snack is served and provided to fuel creative minds. Please bring your own bag lunch.

ArtVentures Summer Program TEEN WEEK: Printmaking!

Instructors: Lorena Salcedo-Watson & Larissa Grass

July 16th - 20th

Ages 12-18 years

Join us for ArtVentures Summer Program 2018 where teens will work alongside two of Long Island's best printmakers!

During this week long, full day, program students will explore the art of printmaking with master printmaker, Lorena Salcedo-Watson and printmaker & educator Larissa Grass.  Our week will begin with a full day of paper making! The paper each student creates will be used for printing later in the week. Daily classes begin with some time to get to know the teachers and students followed by an introduction of that days printing technique. Through hands on demonstrations students gain an understanding of the medium and feel confident in creating work themselves. They will leave at the end of the week with a full portfolio of prints and the knowledge to continue printing on their own!

Snack is served and provided to fuel creative minds. Please bring your own bag lunch.

ArtVentures Summer Program: Puppet Theater 2018!

Instructor: Margaret Zubarriain

August 6th - 10th

9am-3pm

Ages 7-12 years

Make and star in your own outdoor puppet show!

 Learn to build puppets and write your very own story in front of scenery you made.

Teaching artist, Margaret Zubarriain, worked at the Jim Henson Creature Workshop where she learned all about puppet and prop building! She will lead the group through all aspects of puppetry such as all types of puppet building, creating props and sets, writing stories, and performing.
